28th Oct. 2006 Symposium took place.

Symposium: “Thinking about the possibilities of Citizenship Education in Japan” has took place at Yoyogi Olympic Centre in Japan, on 28th Octber 2006.

Takashi Ohtsu, a lecturer of chuo-gakuin univ., presents the summary about Japanese Civic Education and new trend education practiced in Shinagawa-ward, Tokyo. 

Hisashi Morita, a teacher of Shokei gakuin girls highschool in Sendai-city, reports about the lessons in his school. He teaches citizenship using teaching materials of Institute for Citizenship translated into Japanese.

Yoshiharu Miyazawa, Kanoh junior high school in Okegawa-city, presents about the activities, which to use the "local manifest" for. The pupils walked around the Okegawa station and commercial road, and reserch good points and bad points in the town. So they made plans to improve their town, interviewing the people living there. After that, they presented the "Manifest type plan" toward City Hall staffs and commercial & industry people.

Don Harrison, Citizenship Consultant and a former staff of the Save the Children and Institute for Citizenship, presents about the current report of Citizenship Education in UK, problems to be solved, and good results to be rewarded. He shows introduction of his acImage1tivities, examples and  cases of workshop in lessons of Citizenship in UK.

Finally, all the menbers and the audience discuss teaching Citizenship in Japan and UK together,  sharing common problems and values, or recognizing differences and backgrounds.
